Styrax extract is a hard-to-find specialty. Its pleasant balsamic scent with a bitter almond note and vanilla accents, gives a prominent place in perfumery, valuable as a base note and fixative for fragrances.

Styrax extract is a hard-to-find specialty. Its pleasant balsamic scent with a bitter almond note and vanilla accents, gives a prominent place in perfumery, valuable as a base note and fixative for fragrances.
Liquidambar styraciflua takes its botanical name from its amber coloured resin known as «liquid amber». Styrax is often confused with Benzoin.
Olfactory profile: balsamic, with and bitter almond and subtle leathery notes and vanilla accents.
Occasionally used in the imitation of other scents as an alternative to vanilla, ambergris and benzoin notes, or to complement them.
Styrax resin and its extract have apparently long been used by the locals of Honduras and Guatemala - the native area of the Liquidambar tree, for its vulnerary properties, wound care.
In aromatherapy is thought to relieve stress related issues and anxiety, is soothing and enhances emotional comfort. Releases a scent suitable for relaxation, is considered sensual.
In cosmetics it can be used for perfuming in creams, body butters, balms, emulsions.
Insoluble in water, not totally soluble in ethanol, miscible in oils, emulsions and anhydrous compositions.
